This presentation aims at describing research and empirical facts underlying recommended practices in Early Childhood Intervention and its impact on children and families, reinforcing the value of ECI for sustainable development of societies. It will also address paradigmatic changes and characteristics of ECI practices that enhance the quality of support and development of children and families in first years of life.
Associate Professor - Institute of Education (IE), researcher of the Center for Research in Education. (CIEd), University of Minho, Portugal Graduated in Psychology, University of Coimbra. Has a Masters in EI from the University of Cincinnati, USA, as a Fulbright Scholar and did her PhD in Special Education, University of Minho. She teaches in the area of Special Education/Early Intervention at the IE since 1994 where designed and coordinates a Master Program in Early Intervention. Has participated in numerous conferences and seminars both in Portugal and abroad and has several publications in the area of Early Intervention. Has participated in 6 European Projects. Is part of the board of the National Association of Early Intervention (ANIP) in Portugal and is chair of the European Association of Early Childhood Intervention (EURLYAID) since 2012.
